Hey, I’m Lee, and when I don’t have a camera in my hand I enjoy gardening, traveling, and trail running.
My personality is to collect and surround myself with things I find inspiring, beautiful and meaningful, which includes photographs. Other items I enjoy collecting are plants, stamps, bones, art, old cameras and rocks. On a wedding day I often think of it as a challenge to collect as many moments and details to tell the most complete and authentic story of who you are and what your wedding day means to you, and that pursuit is what gives me purpose and brings enjoyment to this job.
A little glimpse into my life outside of photography: I run on trails around the Piedmont region of North Carolina. Some of my favorite places are Pilot Mountain and Hanging Rock State Parks. Running is a great way to clear my mind and give my body a break from sitting in front of the computer for hours on end, and feels like the grown up version of going to play in the woods, which was my favorite activity growing up. Gardening is another great way for me to get outside and relax, and I’m thankful to have space in my backyard to grow various vegetables, herbs, and flowers.
My wife Shaina and I have been married for 5 years and we just introduced our son Hugh into the family in May of 2022. I can’t wait to teach him about photography and work in the garden with him! Shaina and I have loved traveling for a long time, both before we were married and now as a family. We are both the type of people who need a change of scenery to feel inspired and grounded. (Strong Enneagram 4s, if you’re into that) We enjoy hiking and camping, therefore, many of our adventures involve the Appalachian Mountains, national forests, and state parks. We have visited Italy and Iceland together, and are always dreaming of the next far away place to go.
I completed my university studies as a graphic design major with a photography minor in 2014, which strengthened my natural affinity towards aesthetics and beauty in all forms, and subsequently allowed me to explore the visual arts professionally as a designer and photographer. Of the two, photography comes much more naturally to me, so I am pursuing that first and foremost, but I still enjoy doing branding and design work for friends and small local businesses when the opportunities arise.
Choosing a photographer is a big decision, as if you didn’t already have 100 big decisions for your wedding. Not only are we responsible for capturing the visual story of your day - which will be how you re-live your wedding day for rest of your life - but also because we share in all the intimate moments throughout your wedding, and your photographer must to be someone whose presence is welcome and comfortable. I have a pretty laid back personality and like to shoot from the sidelines which is why I describe my style as documentary, but I balance that with knowing when to step in and take command to be sure we get all the shots you want. My pursuit is to discover and capture the unique beauty in the experience you have carefully tailored for you and your guests, from the floral designs, the intimate atmospheres, the faces, to the dance moves - these all point back to you and your story, and that’s valuable. That’s what you are paying for and what I work so hard to capture in the best way that I can.
If you are interested in more information about what it may look like for me to be your photographer, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Please email or direct message me and include as many general details as you can, such as date, venue/location, size of event, hours needed, etc. and I will get back to you as soon as I can, share some of my package information with you, and hopefully we can find a time to meet and go from there!
Cheers,
Lee
